My Job Today

ometimes I am very frustrated with my job and then I find an amazing volunteer that wants to start a new troop even though she doesn't have a daughter or I have the opportunity to hang out with little girls like these.
Super Models for sure!

Today was one of those days. After a somewhat frustrating Monday morning, I headed to downtown Cincinnati to the Westin Hotel for a very special event. Each year the Westin buys 25 cases of Girl Scout cookies to give to their guests. This year I was asked if I had any deserving troops that would benefit from money earned from the order. I knew exactly who I wanted to ask.

The troop is a mix of 1st-4th grade girls that attend Winton Hills Recreation Center after school. Last year I started a short-term program with these girls and their coordinator was nice enough to continue the troop. Winton Hills is home to one of Cincinnati's housing projects for low income citizens. I don't have any other troops in the area, but I hope this will start a trend.

With a little help from other leaders, we were able to offer this opportunity to the Winton Hills troop. 10 of the 15 girls got to visit the hotel for a pizza party and private tour of the hotel. The money they earn from this sale will give them a head-start to more exciting activities and adventures outside their neighborhood.

The girls had a pizza party, sang songs,, and recited the Girl Scout Promise. I think they enjoyed seeing one of the suites the most.

Check out the looks on the girls faces when he told them how much the check was worth!

Something so simple is so exciting for these girls and it was a lot of fun to be there with them.

XOXO,
T
